HVAF Manchester Apartments
Hoosier Veterans Assistance Fund (HVAF) of Indiana strives to eliminate homelessness for veterans and their families. To provide additional supportive and structured housing to American veterans, HVAF worked with Halstead Architects to refurbish and renovate a veterans housing apartment building adjacent to HVAF's offices in Downtown Indianapolis.
With the help of Halstead Architects HVAF received the 2011 Blueprint Partnership Champion’s award for their efforts to end homelessness.
The exterior work (above) to this historic building included a roof replacement, exterior restoration of the masonry facade, and new windows. The interior apartment units received a fresh update to the interior finishes and life safety improvements including a fire suppression system. Upon completion, the Manchester apartments will have been brought up to the rigorous standards of HVAF housing.
In 2011, United Way "Day of Caring" volunteers besieged the site to unpack site furnishings and perform aesthetic improvements to the building's small courtyard (below).
